TRITON SOLAR CAR
at UC San Diego
CRAFTING SPEED
WITH SOLAR RAYS!
Founded in 2015, the Triton Solar Car at UC San Diego is a dynamic, student-led project dedicated to designing, building, testing, and racing solar-powered vehicles. Located in one of the sunniest cities in the world, we bring together passionate students from diverse academic backgrounds — ranging from engineering to business — to push the boundaries of sustainable transportation.
A Unique, Interdisciplinary Approach
Triton Solar Car is an academic outlet for students from both
engineering and non-engineering fields. By working together, our
members gain invaluable hands-on experience across multiple
disciplines, including:
Mechanical Engineering
Aerospace Engineering
Design & Prototyping
Business & Operations
Project Management
Being part of Triton Solar Car means stepping into real-world challenges: from setting deadlines and managing budgets to developing innovative designs and solving unforeseen problems. It's a collaborative environment where students are prepared for the future, gaining practical experience that goes beyond the classroom.
Our Mission: Competing in the American Solar Car Competition
Our current focus is on the prestigious American Solar Car Competition — an intense cross-country rally event that challenges teams to design, build, and race solar-powered cars. For over two decades, this competition has showcased the brightest minds in sustainable engineering across North America, and now, the Triton Solar Car Club is ready to make its mark.
In 2025, we aim to compete and join the ranks of innovators who have shaped this historic event. To get there, we’re pushing boundaries with cutting-edge technology and new ideas. Right now, our team is in the process of redesigning our chassis and experimenting with new approaches. We’re utilizing tools like Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), 3D printing, and more to bring our vision to life.
